HISTORY QUESTION AND ANSWER
1. With example explain six reasons for African resistance
AFRICAN RESISTANCE was the reaction
in which several societies fought against the European imposition of colonial
rule in Africa. Resistance in Africa mainly occurred between 1880 up to 1914 in
many part of Africa continent. The following was the reasons for African
resistance.
To
preserve their culture European come Africa to introduce new culture which
was not accepted by African and makes them to react against the imposition of
it. Example of new culture which imposed by European people was like monogamy and
Christianity religion.
To
defend social and political sovereignty African chiefs found that the
positions of power were eroded by European so they fought in order to defend
their position. Example Samore Toure of the Mandika people, Mkwawa of the Hehe
and Kabarega of Bunyoro.
The
wanted to protect their economic interests the coming of the white men in
Africa caused the monopolized of trade which were very important to African. So
the solution of returning it was to resist against them. Eg. Nyamwezi fought against
German because German wanted to control long distance trade which was backbone of Isike
economy.
Forced
labour the Africans people were forced to work in mining centers and
plantation under very hard working condition, which caused the African started
to react against them. Eg. At rufiji valley we were observing Matimbi people
resist against German imposition of cotton growing scheme.
Land
question during that time the all fertile land and those area which contain
minerals they were taken by European people and Africa were pushed to the
reserved areas which had shortage of water and unfertile. Eg. We observe south
Africa, Zimbabwe and kikuyu highland in Kenya.
Taxation
son after European coming in Africa were started established the various
tax which were poll tax, Animals tax and Hat tax. For those who failed to pay a
tax they were punished so due to this Africa decided to react against them.
Harsh
treatment the Africa people who failed to obey the rules and order which introduced
by whites people during that time they were whipped or killing by European
people. This led African to react against imposition of colonial rule in
Africa.
Therefore
the evils which done by European people during the imposition of colonial rule
in Africa were led some Africans to react against them. http://www.swahiliteknolojia.blogspot.com
2.
“Migrant labour was very usefully to
the capitalist during the colonial economy in Africa” substantiate this
statement by giving six points.
Migrant labour was
the system of shifted labour from their
origin land to another area. The labour
were highly demanded in plantation and mining centers. The following was the
reasons of capitalist to use migrant labour during the colonial economy in
Africa.
It was very cheap because the labourers
were paid low wages to sustain a single person needs. The workers family
remained at home in some far of rural areas where they grew food to feed
themselves.
It provided ready Markets for European
Manufactured goods the labour who stayed in the dormitories in a large
number bought industrial goods which were imported Europe.
It
reduced resistance against the colonizers the labourers
were recruited from different geographical region and with different culture
which makes them difficult to unity together so as to resist against European
people.
It ensured reliable and constant supply
of labour the labourers were kept in the dormitories in which
the number of them was maintained. It was easy to control truancy and
absenteeism of the workers.
Owner of the plantation and mine made
profit from them because it was easier to collect tax from them also the
paid rent for the house where they stay.
They were less trouble maker because
the coming from far which can make them difficult to blame to return at home up
to end of contact.
Therefore the migrant labour were very important to
European people because it able them to get more profit from this migrants
labourers.
3. Explain the effects of the development of triangular trade in Africa.
Triangular trade was
trade across Atlantic Ocean, the trade operated between the coast of West
Africa, America and Europe. So the following was the effects of the development
of triangular trade in Africa.
Depopulation because Many people died when were sent to
abroad as slave and others leave the continent that resulted to the decreased
number of people in African continent.
Create fear to the African people due
to the frequent raid and ambush the Africa people find the area for escaping
due to high fearing of be taken as the slave by those people who were engaging
in that slave trade.
Separation of family some
African people were taken as the slave and leave their family alone
Decline of local industries through
taken technologist as the slave and live those people a special children and
elders who had not skills and power for building those local industries
Emergence of mullattos during
the process of raiding the village communities sometimes those raiders raped
African women as resulted into birth of the emergence of mullatos
Emergence of free state
like Sierra Leone (1787) and Liberia(1820s) these two African countries formed
as settlement for ex – slaves that means soon after the end of triangular trade
those African who were send to Europe were return Africa in those free states.
Loss of manpower
people who have the power to make production was taken as the slaves this led
African to undergo under development. Because those people who were depended by
African people to generate economy was taken to America.
All
in all the trade was not good for African due to the reasons which I have tried
to mention above
4. Elaborate six reasons which made Boers to escape the southern African
cape between 1830 and 1850.
Boers trek was
the movement of Boers from the cap to the interior/north, the Boers settle at
Natal, Transvaal and Orange Free State by which establish their own government
known as Boers Republic. The following was the reasons which made Boers to
escape the southern Africa cape between 1830 and 1850.
Abolition of slave trade at the cape before the coming of British
at the cape Boers used African as slave to work for them but when British arrive
at the cape the introduce abolition slave trade because of being inhuman. Due
to that the decided to move to another place were slave not abolished.
Introduction of English language as official language before the
coming of British in south Africa official language used at the cape was
Afrikaner language which developed due to contact between Dutch and native
people of south Africa but when British arrive they force English to be used as
the official language instead of Afrikaner language therefore due to that Boers
decided to move northward.
British occupation and domination
at the cape before the British arrive the Boers were
the master controller of the cape but after occurrence of Napoleonic war
British become the victory hence control the cape and Dutch move because the
didn’t want to be under control of other white people.
Introduction
of Anglican Church this cause Dutch to
move because the Boers people were belong to Orthodox Church and before arrive
of British Orthodox was the sole Christianity church existed at the cape but
the arrive of British they introduce Anglican Church which create competition
with Orthodox Church that’s why Boers found it was better to go another place.
Imposition
of laws which insist on equal treatment Boers people were regarded as above
the law and they cannot be judged as the same way with the African’s because
according to them they were regarded themselves as the superior but when
British became the master there at the cape introduced laws which treat people
not according to the color which they have. So this can cause Boers to move
Increase the number of investors at
the cape 19thcentury many whites from European
countries become interested to invest in South Africa especially at the cape
and going so it create the shortage of land at the cape. Therefore Boers
because of being agriculture they were in needs of enough land of agriculture
so they were decided to move north where there was plenty land for agriculture.
Therefore the arrive of British at the cape of
South Africa was the great reason for the Boers to move from the cape to the
northward of South Africa.
